Prince Charles, known as the Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland, accompanied his mother, Queen Elizabeth, to the Royal Company of Archers Reddendo Parade today. The annual event is held in the Palace of Holyroodhouse’s gardens, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh, and more than 300 officers and archers from the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland took part in the parade.

The Queen has had a busy week in Scotland, making her first public appearance since her Platinum Jubilee weekend in early June. The 96-year-old British monarch appeared at the Ceremony of the Keys on Monday, attended a military parade on Tuesday, and met with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Wednesday. However, she skipped the Order of the Thistle service, and yesterday’s Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Prince Charles smiled at his mother the Queen as she waved to the gathered crowd.

The Queen, who has missed a number of events this year due to ongoing mobility issues, used a cane during her appearance.

She also opted to accessorize with sunglasses, a hat, her pearls, and two diamond brooches.

Prince Charles laughed at something she said.

Queen Elizabeth had a smile on her face nearly the entire event.

The Duke of Buccleuch presented a gift to Queen Elizabeth, that she examined with great curiosity.

The Duke also joined Queen Elizabeth to sit for a brief period of time while Prince Charles walked down into the gardens.

Charles greeted members of the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland.

It seemed to be a beautifully sunny day in Edinburgh.

The Queen and Prince Charles both wore blue, with Charles’s tie coordinating with the Queen’s light blue ensemble.
