Along with their nostalgic on-screen return, a limited number of copies of the 1988 single will be made available on vinyl and cassette from 5 August, with the single now up for pre-order.

Announcing the release on Twitter, Minogue wrote: “Now we ARE back together on Neighborsa limited run of Especially For You with @JDonOfficial will be available on vinyl and cassette on 5th August to bring back more 80s memories!!”

Especially for You Arrived in music stores in November 1988, hitting UK shelves in particular within weeks of the famed Neighbors episode in which Minogue and Donovan’s characters got married.

The track debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart, but soon rose to number one and spent three weeks at the summit.

When it comes to their on-screen return, Donovan recently told The One Show that fans can expect a poignant farewell to Scott and Charlene.

He said: “You never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory, and there’s so much when you come down that street. It was emotional, but it’s filming and it moves on. You’ll have to wait and see.” “

Neighbors was formally axed earlier this year when Channel 5 pulled the plug on its deal to air the show in the UK.

Such was the popularity of the soap on these shores over the years that Britain was actually a more important and financially lucrative market for the Ramsay Street soap than its native Australia.

Minogue was among those to pay tribute to the soap’s impact when the cancellation was announced, writing: “I’ll be forever grateful for the experience and the friends I made on Neighbors.

“We had no idea how big the show would become and how passionately viewers would take it to heart. Pure love.”

Neighbors will conclude with a double-length final episode on 29 July.
