Celtic set the record straight on ‘wild goose chase’ Wednesday

Ange Postecoglou has moved to clarify reports about Celtic preparing a bid for Paris Saint-Germain talent Edouard Michut – simply put, it doesn’t look like it’s happening.

The online support, including myself, got pretty excited yesterday when reports from Sky Sports and Fabrizio Romano indicated the Bhoys were in a good position to land the PSG player.

However, Postecoglou didn’t want to mislead anyone when asked about him after last night’s win over Banik Ostrava.

He told The Herald: “If I sat here talking about every player we were linked to every day… we don’t have enough hours. We are still working away in the background. We know what we need. We are working with some targets we have. We are in no rush to get it done.

“There is nothing, in terms of players we are being linked to at the moment, that’s going to happen in the near future. Or at all, in some of the cases.

“I have an interest in every good footballer in the world, but there is a limited market I can tap into. There’s no-one I will dismiss but I don’t want to send someone off on a wild goose chase. Good player, but no.”

Lots of names revolve around Celtic during the summer and most outlets report what they know in good faith. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it’s quickly shut down by the manager.

Postecoglou is always up front about what Celtic are up to in a general sense. In fact, he’s pretty consistent with his policy on transfer reports and rumours – he doesn’t get bogged down by individual names.

He assures us work continues on strengthening the squad and, based on his track record, we have to trust that.

If not Michut, another player feels very likely to be arriving through the doors at Celtic Park this summer.

In other news, Celtic shopping in the right markets as 2021 target attracts strong EPL interest.
